The most apparent symptom of plantar fasciitis is extremely painful heel pain in the morning,6 but it may also occur after standing or exercising. A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) taken by mouth and injections of a corticosteroid/anesthetic mixture into the affected area can help relieve pain. You can also alter your behavior. If you are currently doing a lot of running and jumping, you can switch to low-impact exercises, such as swimming or cycling.
